How long does a bathroom installation take? Day by day

A standard full bathroom installation takes seven to ten working days: strip-out first, then first fix plumbing and electrics, tiling, second fix, and finally sealing and handover. Wet rooms and bigger layout changes take longer because of the extra floor and waterproofing work.

Short answer: a standard full bathroom takes seven to ten working days. Strip-out on day one, first fix days two and three, tiling days four to six, second fix days seven and eight, then sealing and handover.

Here is the day-by-day version, and where the schedule usually moves.

Days one to three

Day one: floors and stairs protected, old suite and tiles removed, waste taken away, room checked back to substrate.

Day two: first fix plumbing. Feeds and wastes set to the agreed layout, any pipework alterations made.

Day three: first fix electrics, boarding, floor levelling and the waterproofing or tanking layer where needed.

Days four to six

Tiling starts, walls first then floor, with setting out done so cuts land in sensible places.

Adhesive and grout need curing time, which is why this stage cannot be rushed.

Large-format porcelain and patterned layouts add a day or so.

Days seven to ten

Second fix: suite, brassware, shower valve, screen or enclosure, towel rail and extractor fitted.

Testing under pressure, silicone sealing, then time for the sealant to cure before use.

Final clean, snag walk-round with you and handover with any certificates.

What usually moves the schedule

Late material deliveries, which is why we confirm the full specification before day one.

Hidden problems such as rotten boards or failed old waste pipes.

Layout changes agreed mid-job.

Why wet rooms take longer than a standard bathroom

A wet room adds a formed floor with a fall to the drain and a fully tanked floor and wall area. Each layer has drying or curing time before the next can go on, so the tiling stage cannot start as early as it does over a shower tray.

Frequently asked questions

Will the team be there every day?

Yes, other than curing time on adhesive, grout and sealant, which is waiting rather than absence. One team does the whole job, so there is no gap between trades.

Can it be done faster?

Simple swap-for-swap refurbishments can finish in four to six days. Waterproofing and curing set the floor on how quickly a full fit can safely go.

When can I use the shower?

Usually 24 to 48 hours after final sealing, so the silicone cures fully.

Does a smaller bathroom take much less time?

Less than a large room, but not proportionally less. Strip-out, first fix, drying times and second fix happen whatever the size, so even a small room follows the same sequence.
