The three real causes
Split trades: a tiler waiting on a plumber waiting on an electrician. Every handover is a chance for a lost week. We run tiling and plumbing fitting with one team, which removes most of that risk.
Materials ordered after the start: tiles on a four-week lead time discovered on day three stops everything. We agree the full specification before the strip-out.
Genuine discoveries: rotten floorboards, undersized joists, non-compliant wiring. These are real, but a proper survey finds most of them beforehand rather than mid-job.
Questions worth asking any fitter
Is the quote fixed price, and what specifically is excluded from it?
Who does the plumbing and who does the tiling, and are they the same team?
When will materials be ordered and where will they be stored?
What is the plan if something is found behind the wall - do you stop and re-quote, or is a contingency agreed?
How we sequence it
Strip out and first-fix plumbing, substrate preparation and boarding, waterproofing, tiling, second-fix and fitting, then sealing and snagging. Each stage finishes before the next begins, which is why the room comes back in a predictable order.
Frequently asked questions
Do you take payment up front?
We discuss payment stages openly in the quote. Nothing is hidden and nothing is demanded before work starts without being agreed in writing.
What happens if you find something unexpected?
We stop, show you, explain the options and price the extra before proceeding. No surprise invoices at the end.
How long does a typical bathroom take?
Scope decides it. The installation timeline guide sets out a stage-by-stage sequence with realistic durations.
Will I be without a bathroom the whole time?
Usually only for part of the project. We will tell you at survey which days the WC will be out of use so you can plan.
